Who we are & why we’re hiring
Twilio powers real-time business communications and data solutions that help companies and developers worldwide build better applications and customer experiences.
Although we're headquartered in San Francisco, we have presence throughout South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. We're on a journey to becoming a globally anti-racist, anti-oppressive, anti-bias company that actively opposes racism and all forms of oppression and bias. At Twilio, we support diversity, equity & inclusion wherever we do business. We employ thousands of Twilions worldwide, and we're looking for more builders, creators, and visionaries to help fuel our growth momentum.
About the job
This position is needed to help build up the core platform for one of the most strategically important products in Twilio. Our team is responsible for a messaging platform that seamlessly connects SMS, Whatsapp, email and several other channels, for solutions both internal and external to Twilio. With our set of SDKs - iOS and Android - being our main entry point for customer traffic, as well as playing a vital part in our onboarding experience, it is necessary to continuously evolve and enrich them with brand new features.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
-
Work alongside back-end teams to design and implement new features, following the priorities set forth by our Product teams.
-
Review and identify improvement opportunities in our current codebase, proposing and discussing them with Tech Leads, Architecture and the wider team.
-
Cultivate an atmosphere of quality by championing testing standard methodologies and engineering efficiency.
-
Grow your team, coaching less experienced team members to achieve their potential as engineers.
-
Contribute to design and feature ideas and betterments to the backlog.
-
Adopt engineering best practices to deliver secure, maintainable and scalable software, inspiring your team members to follow the same path.
Qualifications
Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Twilio values diverse experiences in other industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. While having “desired” qualifications make for a strong candidate, we encourage applicants with alternative experiences to also apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!
Required:
-
3 years of experience with building, maintaining and evolving apps and/or libraries in mobile technologies.
-
Strong fundamental knowledge of software development and best practices, for RESTful service implementation.
-
Oral and written communication skills: be prepared to frequently propose and discuss ideas and implementation with your teammates, as well as involving other stakeholders in Twilio - we’re one single team, no one flies solo!
-
Curious mindset - we’re not looking for someone with all the answers, but rather someone who is prepared to grow with us.
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
Desired:
-
Experience building client side SDKs is a plus.
-
Knowledge of package manager solutions (examples: CocoaPods, SPM, Carthage).
-
No stranger to Docker and containerisation in general.
-
Experience participating in development for large scale services.
