Job Summary:
The Medical Coder/Billing Specialist’s task list includes but is not limited to:
- Translates patient appointment information into the appropriate CPT and ICD 10 codes.
- Posts daily charges and balance scheduled visits to charges made.
- Submits charges and follows up on both clearing houses accepted and non-accepted claims including workers compensation.
- Bills encounters daily and work any rejected encounters for clearinghouse upload.
- Clears appointment charges list on a monthly basis.
- Follows up with payers on unpaid claims.
- Posts payments, as needed.
- Makes collection calls to patients, as needed.
- Helps answer and respond to incoming patient phone calls and voice mails.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient data and ensures database security.
Supervisory Responsibility
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of Medical Coding experience preferred.
- Current certification in medical billing and coding preferred.
- Strong customer service skills.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to review and analyze data with a high level of accuracy and gather information from various forms, charts, staff, reports, etc.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Computer skills. Database skills – Excel, Word, and NextGen Experience a plus.
- Detail oriented.
- Medical terminology.
