The Officer Clerk / Staff Technician - Campus Police is a full-time, 12-month position responsible to the Chief of Police.
Responsible for performing clerical and administrative duties in an office setting. Assists the administrative assistant and office manager by sorting mail, filing, answering phones, greeting members of the campus community and members, and restocking supplies.
Scope
Provide service and information to students, employees, and visitors; support the mission and goals of Tyler Junior College and the Police Department.
Responsible for answering the administrative lines to the police department; greeting people as they enter the lobby of the police department;
transferring calls for service to the emergency communication center as needed; performing clerical duties as assigned; serving as a campus security authority.
Essential Functions and Duties
Typical
Provides service to students, employees, and visitors; answer the administrative lines of the police department, greets members of the campus community and visitors when they enter the lobby of the police department or substation, issue parking permits and identification cards, update identification cards each semester as needed, enter parking permit and vehicle information into the college’s parking permit management program, process parking citation appeals submitted by the campus community, looks up student information to support the operation of the police department, sorting and delivering incoming and outgoing mail, take messages for members of the police department, run errands and make deliveries on behalf of the police department to other campus departments, monitoring office inventory and make request to order supplies, collecting, filing and organizing office documents such as report and confidential records;
Occasional
Write reports or statements related to incidents that were reported to the police department or occurred at the police department or on campus.
Provides testimony in court.
Qualifications
Work is performed under the general supervision of the department’s office manager / administrative assistant. Supervision is usually available in person or by phone.
Work is reviewed for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with departmental policy and procedure. Supervision give to student workers of the police department.
