Urban Planner

AMERCO Real Estate Company is seeking to fill a full time Zoning and Land Use Project Planner. This is a mid-level position with the great opportunity of joining a creative and dynamic team. The ideal candidate should have advanced knowledge of land planning, graphic preparation, municipal entitlements, and plan preparation with excellent layout, organization, written, and verbal skills. Zoning and Land Use Project Planners work directly under the supervision of the management team including Director of Land Use and President of AMERCO Real Estate.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Research and prepare analysis of municipal zoning codes.
• Process applications for Rezoning, Tentative Map, Development Agreements, Design Review, General Plan Amendments, and Variances
• Attend and present at local public municipal hearings, pre-application meetings, etc.
• Prepare Site plans and Landscape Plans
• Develop and manage relationships with municipal staff and officials.
• Understand and clearly communicate the needs of different jurisdictions to internal and external stakeholders.
• Negotiate and finalize entitlements from municipalities.
• Negotiate contracts for services to be performed by outside consultants such as land use attorney, architects, and civil engineers.
• Preparation of graphics and materials using AutoCAD and Adobe Suite
• Knowledge of grading and drainage
• Design guidelines, land development standards, narratives, and other project creative writing

Qualified candidates will possess:

• Bachelor's degree in real estate, urban planning, architecture, engineering or related field
• At least 4 years of experience in planning or architecture related fields preferred. Master's degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
• Keen understanding of commercial development process
• Ability to read and understand complex zoning codes, general plans, specific plans, and technical reports.
• Excellent organization and people skills including the ability to work with a wide variety of staff levels from senior executives to administrative staff.
• Comprehensive understanding of site development process
• Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time while maintaining a high attention to detail.
