Description/Job Summary
This position could be anywhere from to two to four days per week.
U.M. FDSP Associates, P.A. is a non-profit corporation based in the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. The purpose of UM FDSP is to engage in the practice of dentistry for patients of the School of Dentistry, to improve the quality of dental education at the school through the operation and maintenance of dental service. UM FDSP assists the school in remaining competitive with other dental schools to continue the high degree of excellence in the pursuit of academic and clinical education.
This clinical staff member will be a part of the PLUS Program team. This position is a grant supported (pending yearly funding renewal) dental hygienist position that provides services to Ryan White qualified dental patients. Under supervision of the PLUS Program Director, dental services provided include but not limited to: initial screening with review of medical history, intra and extra oral exams, taking appropriate dental radiographs, periodontal charting, dental prophylaxis to include scaling and root planning and application of periodontal medicaments when indicated.
Particular attention will be given to applicants with Maryland DHMH Recognition for Administration of Local Anesthesia by Infiltration and/or certified as a tester for the HIV Rapid Antibody.
Administrative duties include but not limited to: supportive implementation of policies and procedures for patient services, clinical coordination of patient and dental provider schedules, data collection for Ryan White required epidemiology reports, patient fiscal/insurance information collection/confirmation and maintenance and academic duties regarding the National HIV/AIDS Strategies.

Provides preventive maintenance dental care.
Performs periodontal therapy.
Exposes digital radiographs and expose and develop pantographic film and bitewings when necessary.
Trains patient in oral hygiene care.
Maintains appointment recall, inactivation and inactivation warning system for patients.
Assists dentist in identifying the dental needs of patients.
Places sealants on teeth if warranted.
Maintains implants.
Performs oral examinations and refers suspicious lesions/caries/pathology to PLUS Clinic Director for review.
Completes initial medical history and updates medical histories at each patient visit.
Performs set up and breakdown of operatory for each patient as per universal precautions/infection control procedures.
Supports other personnel under the auspices of the PLUS Program clinically and administratively as per the PLUS Program Director.
Supports other hygienists in PLUS Clinic, when time permits by: treating patients, assisting with the set up or breakdown of operatories, retrieving or ordering instruments or supplies as a part of the PLUS Program team of providers

Thorough knowledge of the principles and clinical practice of dental hygiene theory and technique (including a clinically acceptable to superior skills in periodontal instrumentation).

Required Experience
Required Education
Registered Dental Hygienist with current licensure by the State of Maryland
Bachelor of Science or Associate of Applied Science Degree from an accredited program in dental hygiene.
Required Qualifications
All candidates must have a current state of Maryland dental hygiene license and be CPR certified, and remain CPR recognized, with renewal every two years thereafter.
Successful hire must become certified as a tester for the HIV Rapid Antibody (time to be arranged pending training course schedule).

This part time position will work two to four days a week (negotiable) hours determined by supervisor.
