PLUMBER (PART TIME)
Overview:
As an Army Plumber, you’ll be crucial in keeping the Army operating smoothly by installing, repairing, and making construction plans for new pipe systems and insulation. You’ll install and repair pipe systems, plumbing fixtures, vents, and insulation, and you’ll read, interpret, and make construction plans for new pipe systems.
Job Duties:
- Maintain heating systems, basic water supply and water distribution systems.
- Maintain pipe systems for wastewater.
- Perform basic plumbing repair and maintenance.
- Maintain plumbing fixtures, pipes, stacks, brackets, traps, vents and insulation.
- Create and read construction plans and drawings.
Requirements:
- Be between the ages of 17–35.
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- General Maintenance (GM): 88 on the ASVAB.
- Those who want to serve must first take the ASVAB, a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.
Training:
Job training for a Plumber requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 7 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job training with some classroom instruction.
Some of the skills you’ll learn are:
- Installation and repair of pipe systems, plumbing fixtures, boiler controls, and water purification and distillation systems.
- Maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Helpful Skills:
- Interest in math and shop mechanics.
- Preference for physical work.
- Ability to work with detailed plans.
