Summary

This position is located in Chickasaw National Recreation Area, in the Facility Management Division.

Duties

Major Duties :

Masonry - Performs mostly concrete and plaster touch up around existing historic and other masonry structures. Uses knowledge of settling, floating, and troweling concrete to the finish required.

Mixes masonry cement, sand, and water for laying bricks, cinder blocks, and flagstone. Uses hand tools relating to plastering and concrete work such as shovels, hoes, trowels of all types, rakes, bull floats, edger's, and hawks.

Uses gas and electric cement mixers.

Engineering Equipment Operation & Repair - Working largely without direct supervision, operates and performs minor maintenance on a variety of vehicles such as dump truck, front end loader, road broom grader, and sewage pumper truck.

Operates equipment on flat or rolling terrain, in refuse dumps, and at construction sites with simple terrain problems and performs duties such as plowing snow, spreading road material, hauling materials to job site, loading material on dump truck, removing rockslides, clearing sides of roads, removing hazardous trees, base materials for roads, walks, parking lots, etc.

Operates equipment in confined areas.

May perform other lower graded duties for 20% or less of the time in performing functions such as painting, plumbing, welding;

trails and grounds work; and asphalt work and road maintenance by repairing pavement surfaces, i.e., chuck holes, edge raveling, ruts, bleeding, grade depressions, and makes utility cuts.

Chickasaw NRA Local Area Information :

The recreation area is located adjacent to the town of Sulphur, Oklahoma (population 6,000), 82 miles south of Oklahoma City and 140 miles north of Dallas, Texas.

The towns of Ardmore and Ada, each with a population of about 25,000, are about 30 miles away. Springs, streams, and lakes in wooded and grassy hills typify the area.

Elevation is 1,011 feet and the average annual rainfall is 38 inches. Summer temperatures sometimes exceed 100 degrees and winter temperatures of 20 degrees or lower are not uncommon.

Both Sulphur and nearby Davis (population 3,000) have school systems with Kindergarten through Grade 12. Fully accredited colleges are available as close as 30 miles.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.

You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

  • You must possess or obtain within 18 months of hire and maintain a current Class A, (or higher) Commercial Driver's License.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card : You may be required to complete training and obtain / maintain a government charge card with travel and / or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors :

  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
  • Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
  • Knowledge of materials
  • Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
  • Use of Measuring Instruments
