SEASONAL SPACE CAMP SUPERVISOR

Overview

Assist the Space Camp program management team in the supervising of counselor staff, trainees, and program activities.Ensure these activities reflect the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the Rocket Center and Space Camp.

This position is a seasonal appointment to cover the needs of the Space Camp program during the busy season.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Run day-to-day operations of all camp programs.
  • Dispatch staff accordingly throughout the campus to cover all needs of the camps and troubleshoot any issues that might arise.
  • Assignment of duties on the weekly staff support schedule.
  • Execution of any emergency action plans.
  • Verify and execute the wake-up and lights-out plan.
  • Compiling and entering all shift notes to ensure proper communication between shifts.
  • Selection of weekly camper and staff awards.
  • Trainee Discipline up to the point of parent phone calls.
  • Staff Counseling and behavior up to the point of verbal write-ups.
  • Investigation and documentation of camper issues to include incident reports and decampment justification.
  • Fulfill any roles as assigned based on Space Camp needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Have sufficient interpersonal skills to work as an integral part of a team.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • This position will require appropriate references.
  • Must maintain appropriate interpersonal / personal boundaries.

  • Be comfortable working in outdoor and high environments.
  • Must adhere to and participate in the Center's safety program.

  • Serves as an effective role model to staff by demonstrating exemplary work ethic.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Education :

  • Minimum of 2 years of college or an associate degree.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with trainees and counselors.
  • Must be organized, professional, and action-oriented.
  • Must have the ability and patience to interact with people of all ages from children to adults.

Preferred Education and Experience :

  • Minimum of 2 years working in a children's or educational camp environment.
  • Previous managerial experience.

Other Requirements

  • Must possess knowledge of Windows-based operating systems.
  • Some basic associated software applications (Excel and Microsoft Word).
  • Must possess the ability to interact and lead trainees ages 9-12 years old.

Physical Requirements of the Position

This position has the following special requirements :

  • Walking, climbing (stairs) to access other departments and buildings, and to experience all areas of the training center floor and museum.
  • Standing for long periods (4-6 hrs.) directing counselors and trainees, conducting lectures, and operating simulators.
  • Pushing, carrying, and lifting boxes, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to waist high.
  • Bending, kneeling, and reaching to store / retrieve supplies.
  • Sight, reading, wrist movements, feeling to operate simulators, review schedules, and write reports.
  • Talking, and hearing to instruct counselors, and trainees, and assist guests in person and over the telephone.
  • This position involves working in a climate-controlled office environment and building.
  • This position will involve walking to / from buildings in various weather conditions.
  • This position deals extensively with employees and guests who interact with assigned areas of responsibility.
  • This position interacts extensively with small children and adults.
  • This position will require the knowledge to effectively and efficiently operate all simulators designated by management.
