What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concept Artist position at Ubisoft?
Home to the North American Ubisoft headquarters since 1996, Ubisoft San Francisco opened its development studio in 2009 and since developed Rocksmith® and Rocksmith 2014, to teach millions of people how to play guitar and bass. With a song library of over 1,500 songs and 10 years of support the Rocksmith franchise helped millions of players around the world on their musical journey. In 2017, the studio released the critically acclaimed South Park™: The Fractured But Whole™, in collaboration with Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and South Park Digital Studios. The studio is currently working on innovative new titles with Rocksmith and XDefiant.
As a Concept Artist on Ubisoft's, XDefiant project, you'll work closely with the other artists developing the 2D elements that will constitute the representations of ideas, provide inspiration, and become references for the art elements in the game for the production team. You possess a passion for game development and thrive on creating high-quality, concepts working with a talented team of like-minded artist.
You're eager to receive your colleagues' feedback and enjoy the challenge that comes with the continuous, iterative process of working and reworking your art until you communicate the correct visual design language for the game.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Create and iterate on concepts, thumbnails, loose sketches, and finished/polished pieces- Working with a small, dedicated team. you will help develop the overall vision of the game (set the tone and ambiance, pitch locations, key moments, emotional contrasts, etc.)
- Produce sketches and quick iterations (digital or paper)
- Create concepts of characters from existing references or from scratch
- Propose concepts to the artistic team and discuss possibilities
- Adapt your artwork based on feedback
- Find the balance between artistic aspects and technical constraints
- Refine your concept art to illustration by adding layers of detail
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Experience in concept art in the video game industry or other relevant experience- Knowledge of digital painting and 3D software
- Understanding of art fundamentals: lighting, composition, architecture, anatomy, etc.
- Open-mindedness and flexibility
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (you can share your ideas and explain your creative process)
- A collaborative spirit
- A whole lot of creativity and curiosity
