What are the responsibilities and job description for the SRA 2 NEX - 68261 position at UC Davis Health?
Department Description
The Hagerman Laboratory within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine uses molecular techniques to characterize neurological disorders related to the FMR1 gene, specifically, fragile X syndrome ( FXS ) and fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome ( FXTAS ). The focus of research is the molecular characterization of gene expression and cellular pathways that underlie the pathogenesis of these disorders. Relevant fundamental techniques include human/mammalian cell culture; DNA , RNA , and protein extraction; PCR and qRT- PCR ; immuno-based assays; and transfection of cultured human and mammalian cells. Continued assay development and optimization will be performed as needed to further the research goals of the laboratory. Research in the lab also relies heavily on processing both human and non-human (mammalian) brain tissues and blood samples. Importantly, the position requires the ability to conduct experiments and troubleshoot with minimal supervision, to interpret and document results, and to effectively communicate those results orally and in writing.
