The Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology anticipates an opening for the Lab Manager position. Applications are being sought from recent B.S., and M.S. graduates in the field of Ophthalmology, Cellular and Molecular Biology or equivalent. The incumbent will be expected to manage all aspects of The Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Immunology in Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, School of Medicine. This will require management skills of 1) acquiring and maintaining inventory of mRNA vaccines, adenovirus peptides, antibodies, virus stocks, and monoclonal antibodies, 2) monitoring of equipment such as freezers, biosafety cabinets, flow cytometers, and liquid nitrogen tanks, 3) oversight of animal studies (mice, rabbit, guinea pigs, and hamsters) and breeding, and 4) interface with key stakeholders such as Project Management, Finance and Procurement. The incumbent will plan and manage experiments with researchers and facilitate writing of study reports. Rank and salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Required:
- At least 5 years of experience as a project manager for a laboratory.
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in life sciences
- Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking and time management skills. Requires interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.
- Demonstrated proficiency using software, including Microsoft Office; Word and Excel for word-processing.
- Ability to utilize resources.
- Demonstrated ability to use the copier, FAX machine, Zoom meetings, conference lines and transcription equipment. Experience working in a laboratory setting with faculty, post-doctoral scholars, and staff.
- Maintains technical proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures.
Preferred:
- Must be willing to work variable shifts and hours required and/or needed.
- Leadership skills associated with planning work assignments, establishing priorities and scheduling instructional space.
- Solid interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of research discipline or instructional design to collaborate effectively with faculty and function as a resource to research and instructional associates.
- Solid interpersonal communication skills to effectively supervise staff.
- Ability to conduct and report on scientific experiments and findings.
- Knowledge of necessary lab safety procedures and requirements, as well as chemical disposal guidelines.
