DESCRIPTION
Under supervision, participates in the configuration, fabrication and testing of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical sub-systems. Performs full assembly operations and the associated test procedures. Refurbishes instruments returned from the field and prepare for re-deployment. Performs final testing, programming, and shipment preparation. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
- Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
Working knowledge of electro-mechanical fabrication and quality assurance principals.
Working knowledge of machining techniques, including the ability to read mechanical drawings.
Ability to work in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work with a diverse group of people, to communicate clearly, and to demonstrate tact and diplomacy.
Organizational skills to maintain laboratory space, tools, supplies, and equipment.
Ability to read schematics, solder, operate equipment to test electronics.
Ability to operate instrument systems and laboratory test equipment.
Knowledge of laboratory, shop, and seagoing safety procedures.
Ability to operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, winches, and cranes.
Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the field.
Analytical skills, and strong skills in attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with Google Workspace, and MS Office.
Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, lab, shipboard and support personnel.
Ability to exercise independent judgment in the field and in the lab.
Analytical and judgment skills to conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Passport required for seagoing operations and travel to foreign ports.
Ability to travel to remote locations and go to sea under adverse weather conditions.
Ability to obtain certification to ship hazardous materials according to IATA (International Air Transport Association) and IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) regulations (UN3090, UN3091).
Ability to obtain forklift driver certification, 4500 pound rating minimum.
California driver's license, and comfortable driving a full-sized pick-up truck.
Ability to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card for secure port access.
