This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a combination of onsite and remote work.

DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Associate Director Capital Planning, the Principal Campus Space Planner will be responsible for supporting short-term and long-range space plans, and development of space guidelines, space studies, and analytical models and reports. Analyze campus-wide space and utilization standards, program requirements, and facilities resources to recommend options for space management. Provide counsel and technical expertise to campus leadership and participate in the deliberations of committees for capital project planning. Provide complex analyses to support space program justifications including analyses related to proposed space moves/renovations to ensure overall campus objectives are met. Work with campus units regarding space planning. Develop, promote, and implement solutions that enhance campus-wide reporting of facilities and space data.

Develop and apply space standards to inform departmental space planning, develop models and conduct studies to ensure best practices and most efficient use of space. Support campus departments in business processes related to space management systems, including Facilities Information Management (FIM). The Principal Campus Space Planner uses advanced planning concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues and provide high level expertise and assistance to senior management on all aspects of university planning, architecture and/or other related fields. Participate in the development of short and long range development and space plans, and propose/recommend revisions and/or refinements, including identifying and proposing solutions to potential problem areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area or an equivalent combination of experience/training.

  • Advanced knowledge and skills in city planning, architecture, or other planning-related fields. Progressive professional experience in higher education and/or institutional space planning and programming.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of facilities/space management, planning and analysis concepts, and information/space management systems functionality.

  • Thorough working knowledge and proven experience in preparation of facilities and space planning studies that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. Ability to function with a high degree of autonomy.

  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting policies, design processes and evaluating resource implications leading to effective strategic planning often outside the "business as usual" paradigms of existing campus culture.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in committee support and advisory functions as well as the ability to write concise and detailed agendas and minutes of committee or council meetings for distribution to campus faculty and staff.

  • Advanced skills at analyzing complex information using a wide variety of computer software tools including spreadsheets, database applications, word processing and graphical tools.

  • Working knowledge of Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) skills and concepts. Experience in working with architectural drawings/floor plans.

  • Advanced analytical, project management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to use independent good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to resolve issues and develop solutions. Skill at working with great accuracy of detail and concentration both quantitatively and conceptually with ideas and figures.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in developing, researching and writing special studies and projects in addition to responding to requests for information from campus leadership.

  • Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including advanced political acumen. Ability to employ interpersonal skills in situations calling for tact and diplomacy.

  • Skill at clearly communicating information to a wide variety of people (including executive leadership) in written form, in person and by phone. Skill at speaking before small and large audiences with poise and confidence. Ability to provide graphic illustrations to explain complex space use strategies for review.

  • Proven ability to successfully establish and maintain positive and goal-oriented working relationships with a diverse population.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • DOJ and FBI background checks and clearances required prior to hire.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $71,000 - $160,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.00 - $76.63

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
