Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the SRA 1 or SRA 2 level.
DESCRIPTION
Under supervision of the PI or senior staff, the staff research associate will be engaging in cell and developmental biology activities, with a strong focus on placental and stem cell biology. They will perform/assist with research activities such as isolation of primary cells from human placental tissues and in vitro tissue culture work (including culture of human pluripotent stem cells). They will prepare libraries for sequencing and submit samples to the core. Under the supervision of a computational biologist, they will perform dataset analysis, including bulk and single cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq for histone modifications and transcription factors, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, single nuclei multiome analysis, using R. They will execute molecular and cellular biology assays including quantitative real-time PCR, Western blotting, gene expression manipulation using lentiviral vectors, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence analysis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Theoretical knowledge of molecular biology techniques and genetics typically acquired through Bachelor degree in biology or related field, and/or relevant lab experience.
Experience in sterile technique.
Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal protocols, techniques, and instructions
Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills over a wide range of situations and individuals needed to interact professionally and effectively in the work environment in person, on the phone, and in writing to a diverse population.
Demonstrated experience with the operation of a personal computer and software applications, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), Photoshop, Acrobat.
Ability to read, comprehend, discuss, and present research materials.
Willingness to learn new theory, techniques, and tasks and share knowledge.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of bio, chemical, and radiation safety techniques and practices. Demonstrated ability to follow established Safety and Biohazardous Material Guidelines and implement measures to ensure compliance and maintain associated records.
Experience in keeping accurate and well-organized lab records, lab notebook and computer data files..
Familiarity with the program language R and willingness to learn new software for data analysis.
Experience with UCSD ordering, EH&S, and facilities policies and business systems.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be willing to work with animal/human tissues.
Must be willing to work with hazardous materials.
Occasional travel to campus (about 2 miles away from lab)

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
