What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAR-T Coordinator position at UCHealth?
The Blood Disorders Center at the University of Colorado Hospital is transforming health care for our malignant blood cancer and benign hematology patients by not only providing exemplary patient-centered care but also through world-class clinical research trials and our revolutionary partnership with the CU School of Medicine in the development of the CARE Innovation Center, a comprehensive service that brings together health care and leading industry and start-up partners. We are proud to be the only hospital in Colorado with five consecutive Magnet designations and were recently ranked as the #1 Hospital in the State of Colorado by US News and World Report for the 10th year in a row. We are also ranked as the #1 Employer in the State of Colorado by Forbes.
The Blood Disorders Center services patients with Lymphoma, Leukemia, MDS, and Multiple Myeloma, as well as rare blood disorders such as Castleman's Disease, Hairy Cell Leukemia and Langerhans. Some of these patients will proceed to either an Autologous or Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant or CAR-T Cell Therapy. We also see patients with Myeloproliferative Neoplasms such as Polycythemia Vera, Myelofibrosis and Essential Thrombocytosis as well as other non-malignant blood disorders, including anemia, Sickle Cell Disease, and Thalassemia.
The CAR-T RN Coordinator position is responsible for managing care coordination leading up to and following CAR-T Cell Therapy. This person will work with Commercial CAR-T companies to roll out each new product, ensuring that our center is certified to provide each product. He/she will serve as the authorized representative for each pharmaceutical company, completing all necessary training as specified and ensuring that any additional training is completed by all necessary providers. This role will collaborate with our internal pharmacy team to build new treatment plans for both inpatient and outpatient. The CAR-T Coordinator will write and update CAR-T SOPs, Guidelines and educational materials for staff, patients and caregivers. This role is also responsible for collaborating with our Research team for all CAR-T trials to coordinate complex CAR-T processes.
This person will need to be comfortable working with a significant level of autonomy, working independently but being supported by a fantastic team of physicians, fellow nurses and CAR-T Coordinators, intake and access coordinators, pharmacists and advanced practice practitioners all working toward the same goal of delivering outstanding patient care. This role will need to effectively delegate patient care to ancillary personnel. This job requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work well in teams. This is a fast-paced clinic with patients presenting in all stages of acuity. Generally, patients presenting for CAR-T therapy are in acute stages of their diseases, needing to proceed to CAR-T quickly. While some of the work will involve direct patient contact, the majority of this role involves working on a computer, interacting with patients and staff electronically or over the telephone.
