What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN ASC - Pre/Post/PACU & Procedures position at UCHealth?

UCHealth’s Cherry Creek Surgery Center, in the heart of the vibrant Cherry Creek North neighborhood in Denver, has 4 OR’s and 2 Procedure Rooms servicing a wide range of specialties such as ENT, Urology, Plastics, General Surgery, Hand, Foot, Gyn, Breast and Endoscopies. Our Pre-Op/PACU RN’s support the continuity of care from Pre-op through PACU and discharge. The variety of roles for our RNs create an interesting and challenging environment in an Ambulatory Surgery setting that strives to reach the highest standards in care.


Minimum experience of one of the following: 6 months of Pre-op/Post-op, PACU, Procedures, ICU or Stepdown/Progressive Care.

ACLS required before start.


Work Schedule:
Cherry Creek Surgery Center is open Monday through Friday. No nights, no weekends, no major holidays, no call. We offer flexible shifts.


Summary:
Provides direct patient care, at a proficient level, using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities:
Provides nursing care to a complex, diverse surgical patient population in a technologically complex environment. May perform scrub functions, including the preparation, selection, and handling of instruments and supplies used during the surgical procedure and performs surgical counts with the circulating nurse.

Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team to coordinate patient care, including admission, planned surgery, discharge, transfer to higher level of care and any appropriate referrals. Assesses, monitors and communicates the patient condition to the appropriate provider, identifying changes in condition and potential or actual problems.

Interviews, orients and assesses the patient, reviews patient’s medical record and required documents to ensure all information consistent with the planned procedure and patient’s confirmation, ensuring pre-requisites and preferences are met. Initiates education, discharge planning and intervention to optimize positive outcomes.

Performs Intra-op Monitoring, communicating patient condition, and documenting all interventions and activities per standards of practice. Ensures safety checklists, interventions and procedures are implemented and documented as appropriate.


Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.


Requirements:

    Essential:
    • Registered Nurse
    • Basic Life Support
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Other information:
    Minimum Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered/Professional Nursing program if less than 3 years' experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
    Required Licensure/Certification: State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider and any relevant life support certification as determined at position level.
  • Preferred: CNOR, CPAN or CAPA certifications.
    Minimum Experience: 6 months of Pre/Post-op/PACU/ Special Procedures or Circulating nurse (RN) experience or completion of the UCHealth Fellowship program.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)

The pay range for this position is: $31.50 - $48.83 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.


An annual bonus may be paid to eligible employees based upon organizational and individual performance.
