Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Underthe supervision of the Clinic Manager, you will perform front deskreception duties, patient check in/out for the assigned Orthopaedic Clinic.
In this role you will provideadministrative and patient care support to assigned clinic in the Department ofOrthopaedic Surgery. Assist incoordinating patient flow throughout the clinic, from registration todischarge. Work as a member of theAmbulatory Care clinic team to provide smooth outpatient flow resulting inoptimum patient satisfaction and clinic operation
At thefront desk, you will greet visitors and patients, prepares and updateseach patient's chart as needed and for following day and separates physician'scharts accordingly, verifies appointment status and necessary information inthe computer system and checks appointment notes and benefit collection notes.,collects copies of insurance identifications, collects cash and credit cardpayments including co-pays, completes, copies and totals cash receipts andprocesses billing charge documents. You will direct patient's destination using clear and concise instructions and escortspatients who may have difficulty with mobility. Incumbent collects medical records on a daily basis, tracing andresearching the location of the records, and prepares charts for chartreview.
Checkout responsibilities are designed to provide clinical care coordination foroutpatients seen in the clinic. You will schedule return appointmentswhen indicated, answer patients' questions to ensure compliance with physicianorders, schedule x-rays and other diagnostic tests required before return visitto the clinic, review physician discharge orders and physician contactinformation to ensure patient understands where to go and whom to call afterleaving the clinic, and instruct patients on physicians' emergency contactprotocols so they know whom to contact in case of an emergency.
In this role you will be responsible for working with other team members tokeep the clinic running efficiently and effectively, handling transactions in atime-sensitive manner. While the job isprimarily administrative in functionality, some clinical knowledge is required,specifically relating to medical and insurance terminology.
All employees are required to float or travelto all UCLA Orthopaedic clinics as assigned.
Job Qualifications

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and various software programs.
- Minimum of one-year work experience in a customer service environment.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner in a busy setting with conflicting demands.
- Ability to multi-task using a computer and telephone simultaneously while interpreting the needs of patients.
- Excellent speaking and writing skills to clearly and distinctly convey information to individuals at various organizational levels, using proper vocabulary and grammar.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of medical/Orthopaedic surgery terminology sufficient to understand the patient's complaint and triage the medical problem based on patient description of complaints.
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 codes.
- Skill in basic arithmetic to perform cashiering functions and maintain statistics.
