Job Posting for Copywriter/Publication Assistant at UCLA
The Copywriter/Publication Assistant will work on both the editorial process and communications arms of the Asian Pacific Islander (AAPI) Multimedia Textbook, a project of the UCLA Asian American Studies Center, working under the Senior Editor and Communications and Fundraising Coordinator, respectively.
The AAPI Multimedia Textbook is a narrative change project that brings together distinguished scholarship, open access technology, and ethnic studies pedagogy to deepen public knowledge about who we are, strengthen students' historical empathy and bring AAPI stories into every classroom. It is a free AAPI resource geared toward students and instructors in 9th-14th grade classrooms.
On the editorial process, the Copywriter/Publication Assistant will be responsible for copyediting duties, including reviewing written text from various aspects of the project and editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and style. Will help ensure stylistic consistency throughout the textbook chapters, website, and other written content. Will work closely with the Senior Editor, authors, and curriculum developers, as well as other Center staff.
On the communications and fundraising branch, incumbent will be responsible for producing written materials in relation to various promotional materials, fundraising documents, and internal and external communications. Will assist the Communications and Fundraising coordinator in assembling materials for and executing various campaigns for the AAPI Multimedia Textbook.

Required/Preferred
Minimum three years of experience copyediting and working on editorial teams
Preferred
Expertise in writing with expertise in academic writing (e.g., using University of Chicago stylistic guidelines), with respect to content, logic, style, and presentation.
Required
Demonstrated proofreading skills to edit manuscripts, galleys, press releases, and websites.
Required
Demonstrated working knowledge of Comparative Race Relations, Literature, History and the Humanities, Ethnic Studies, Labor Studies, or related field, or equivalent editorial or academic experience.
Preferred
Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and spoken in dealing with scholars, students, editors, writers, reviewers and publishing personnel.

Ability to do follow-up correspondence with authors and writers on their manuscripts.

The ability to work in collaboration with various stakeholders, publications unit staff and other Center staff.

Bachelor of Arts or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe In-Design Software

Working knowledge of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
Preferred
Masters degree preferred or equivalent demonstrated editorial and writing experience with scholarly and/or professional and institutional materials.
