Job Posting for Director of Development, Depression Grand Challenge and Neuroscience at UCLA

As a campus-wide initiative, the UCLA Grand Challenges connect faculty, students and supporters from all disciplines, working together to solve critical issues. As an integral part of UCLA Neuroscience, the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge (DGC) aims to cut the burden of depression in half by 2050. As the Director of Development for the Depression Grand Challenge and Neuroscience, your drive and zeal for fundraising will significantly impact the ability of those leading the Grand Challenges to further their holistic approaches to research and bring passionate participants together to dream big and think about what can be achieved with sights set on common goals.
In this role, you will help plan and implement a fund-raising program to increase support for all elements of UCLA Neuroscience, including the Depression Grand Challenge. As the Director of Development, you will assist with major gift fund raising, proposal writing, and working with faculty, administrators, and volunteers. You will personally identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects with a focus on building diversity in their donor portfolio where possible. You will also work with volunteer and/or advisory boards in support of fundraising programs and initiatives. In addition, as the Director of Development, you will also assist in the design and implementation of gift strategies and integrate efforts, maintaining close working relationships with the Depression Grand Challenge Executive Committee and other related volunteers to the Neuroscience Theme. As a member of UCLA HSD, you will become part of a dynamic, collaborative and innovative team that offers long-term opportunities for professional development and growth as part of our robust External Affairs enterprise serving UCLA.

Required/Preferred
1. A minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible development experience with an emphasis on health sciences, grateful patient, and major gift fundraising and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development working with solicitations of a similar scope, nature and complexity.

2. Experience working in a highly matrixed organization, with a successful track record of building a culture of philanthropy and strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

3. Proven track record in development or comparable program planning and management with a strong understanding of major gift fundraising preferably in an academic medical school setting.

4. Skill in developing and implementing successful strategies for identification, cultivation and solicitation of individuals, corporations, and foundations.

5. Outstanding organizational skills and proficiency in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner and on deadline.

6. Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with donors, volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, staff.
