What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospital Assistant position at UCSF Health?
This job requires providing support to clinical staff in the Emergency Department, as appropriate to promote patient care by taking on any task and/or assignment as indicated, including assisting patients with activities of daily living, taking patient vital signs, performing de-escalation following principles of CPI, participating in patient restraint if necessary, performing patient one to ones as necessary, monitoring and observation, transport, documentation, answering phones and other clerical duties as assigned.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $29.63 - $36.99 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
Our team includes board-certified emergency medicine specialists, nurses trained in emergency and critical care and other specialists who are called upon as needed in areas such as gynecology, neurology, obstetrics, orthopedics, pediatrics and surgery.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduation and two years of experience working with acute psychiatric patients.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a PES or CSU.
- CNA Certification
- Current nursing student who has completed a rotation in an inpatient hospital
- Maintains flexibility in relation to patient assignment, shift, assignment and work assignment.
License/Certification
- Active American Heart Association CPR certification
- CPI Training within 6 months of hire
