Job Opening Summary
The Lead Orthopaedic Cast Technician provides patient care in the Orthopaedic ambulatory clinic setting under the direct responsibility of a licensed physician. The Lead Orthopaedic Cast Technician participates in the care of patients and acts as a resource, mentor, educator and leader in the clinic setting. Acts as a resource/educator/mentor by training staff in fabricating, applying, maintaining and removing casts, splints, Orthopaedic soft goods and other musculoskeletal dressing and appliances. Assists nursing staff and health care providers with daily patient flow, provides suggestions and implements improvements for patient throughput. Trains, educates and acts as a resource to ensure appropriate visit notes, tests and/or X-ray results are available for visit. Performs and educates staff on clinic-specific technical skills. Maintains clinic environment, including supplies and equipment. The Lead Orthopaedic Cast Technician may also perform clerical, insurance and medical records functions. May be required to float to other practices as needed for staffing. The Lead Orthopaedic Cast Technician conducts themselves in a manner that is open, approachable and conducive to teamwork within the area of practice. This position requires specialty knowledge and demonstrated skill with providing casts, splints and braces in support of a provider's clinical practice.
Job Opening Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- 1 year of work history as an Orthopaedic Cast Technician - Level I, or as appropriate, with successful completion of a competency-based training program (4-6 months in duration) prior to the promotion of Level II Orthopaedic Cast Technician.
- History of exceeding expectations as an Orthopaedic Cast Technician - Level I on the annual performance evaluation.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently, within the scope of practice, with integrity and compassion.
- Consistently demonstrates initiative with performing tasks to maintain the function of the clinic.
- Is seen as a mentor, educator and leader within the Orthopaedic practice.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Basic Life Support (CPR) required or obtained within first month of employment.
- If currently possess licensure or certification, expectation would be to continue with this licensure or certification.

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile
a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Basic Life Support (CPR) required or obtained within first month of employment. If currently possess Licensure or Certification expectation would be to continue with this Licensure or Certification.
Shift hours: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday
