Job Summary

As an Industrial Designer with a background in technical engineering and manufacturing, you will play a crucial role in steering the development of innovative products from conceptualization to market launch. Your distinctive blend of engineering proficiency and design acumen will be instrumental in crafting state-of-the-art products that not only meet technical specifications but also captivate end-users. This role serves commercial, retail, and prefabricated construction sectors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Design:
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, drawings, and 3D models using engineering design software. Primarily SolidWorks & Composer.
  • Ensure product designs meet technical requirements, including feasibility, manufacturability, and performance.
Prototyping and Testing:
  • Create physical or digital prototypes for concept validation and testing.
  • Collaborate with engineering and testing teams to analyze prototype performance and iterate designs accordingly.

Materials and Manufacturing:
  • Select suitable materials and manufacturing processes aligned with design and engineering requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure cost-effective and scalable production.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with industrial designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to seamlessly integrate design and engineering elements.
  • Bridge the gap between creative design and technical implementation throughout the product development process.

Innovation and Trends:
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, materials, and technologies.
  • Infuse innovative solutions into product designs to maintain a competitive edge.

Documentation:
  • Create comprehensive design documentation, encompassing technical drawings, specifications, and design rationale.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners to convey design intent.

Project & Self Management:
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective product development.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on project progress.

Conceptualization and Ideation:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate inventive product concepts aligning with market needs and business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Technical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in product development, emphasizing both technical engineering and design, including the assumption of design/engineering drawings for prototype fabrication.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., CAD, SolidWorks, CS, Composer) and graphic design tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, including client-facing moments.
  • Portfolio showcasing successful product development projects.
  • Project management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards related to product design and development.
  • Experience with design thinking methodologies.
  • Hands-on building/construction experience.
