Position Description
The educator is responsible for development and implementation of overall education program for nursing staff. Develop/Implement the preceptor program for both nurses and mental health technicians (MHT). Be responsible for training preceptors. Develop/Implement documentation training on paper chart and HCS. The educator will develop/revise the orientation competencies packets for nurses and MHT’s as needed. Assure all new employees are linked with preceptors for new employee orientation and competency packets are completed and turned into Human Resources per policy. The educator may act as a preceptor as needed and monitor staff skill competencies on each shift as assigned. The educator will provide feedback to unit nurse managers on new employees related to successful completion of competency packets. Be responsible for conducting annual skills fair to assure compliance with annual competencies for nursing staff. Schedule ongoing trainings based on program changes or intervention techniques used for providing patient care. Maintain monthly data on orientation, competencies and other educational trainings as indicated per guidelines. Job requirements section:
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.
Experience: One year clinical experience with a psychiatric mental health population preferred, 2 years experience in infection control practice preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Licensure and registration by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as a registered nurse
Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing principles, working knowledge of microbiology, immunology and epidemiology, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management. Must have good organizational skills and ability to manage several computer databases.
