Core Job Responsibilities: The Shift Supervisor provides oversight of the therapeutic milieu in areas of the hospital. The oversight/management of the milieu includes ensuring program schedules are followed, providing role modeling specific to managing patients with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses requiring a variety of levels of care (acute, subacute, and residential), as well as mentoring direct care staff in guiding patients towards attaining treatment goals. The Milieu Manager is a liaison to department clinical directors and administration to ensure coordinated and efficient operations of services. The Milieu Manager will be responsible for immediately responding to all codes and function as a co-lead with the hospital shift nursing supervisor with de-escalating situations. The Milieu Manager will assist with both formal and informal training of MHTs

Qualifications
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job.
Essential Core Functions:
- Offers direction to MHT level staff, including providing input for evaluation and performance management.
- Completes assigned documentation/paperwork.
- Provides crisis intervention as necessary in accordance with the therapeutic crisis management program utilized in the facility.
- New orientation and on-going training of staff as required.
- Assists in implementing programming and positive interactions among patients and staff.
- Provides guidance, modeling and coaching to MHT level staff to follow program activity schedules as well as safety and security procedures throughout the facility.
- Serves as a role model of staff and patients.
- Makes facility rounds and remains visual to all units/programs.
Job Specifications
Education, Certification/Licensure, and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 1/2 years working with children/adolescent's or 5 or more years in a mental health field.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities required
- Knowledge of general and psychiatric principles of care
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments
- Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions
- Ability to direct and effectively motivate staff
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards
- Knowledge of age specific growth and development
- Knowledge of crisis and behavioral management techniques
- Ability to utilize technology for communication and documentation
