Overview
Change Request Section 508 Specialist (IRS) :
Bowhead is seeking a Section 508 Specialist to provide Assistive Technology program support for the Information Resources Accessibility Program (IRAP) Section 508 office.
The Section 508 Program Office is an organization within the US Department of the Treasury's, Office of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that provides agency wide support Assistive Technology (AT) as a reasonable accommodations and technical Section 508 guidance for IRS projects and Agency initiatives.
Responsibilities
The Section 508 Specialist will support the 508 Change Request Team and other pertinent Section 508 initiatives. Change Requests (CRs) are undertaken for all new software or significant releases that the IRS is considering for inclusion in its software portfolio.
The responsibilities of the Section 508 Specialist include, but are not limited to :
- Extracting and reviewing 508 documentation
- Validating the provided Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) for accuracy and preparing assessment reports for the evaluated CR
- Providing remarks on VPAT discrepancies, IRAP comments, and workarounds for any criteria that fail to meet standards
- Verifying the risk classification and compliance level of the CR
- Updating stakeholders with findings and maintaining regular communication via email regarding the status and final assessment of the CR
- Collaborating on the CR review process during daily meetings to reach a consensus on assessment outcomes, risk levels, and compliance results
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Programming, or a related field is preferred
- Strong background in Information Technology, particularly with network-based systems
- Experience in software development or testing
- Proven experience reviewing VPAT or Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and other relevant accessibility standards
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Physical Demands :
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
