What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Service Lab position at Ultima Genomics?
We are looking for a highly motivated Director, Service Lab to join our team!
The Director of Ultima Genomics Service Lab (UGSL) will drive operational execution across a portfolio of existing offerings within the UGSL and support onboarding of new ones. The candidate will be leading the development and growth of the UGSL and brings strong understanding of lab processes, clinical laboratory services as well as laboratory technologies. The candidate will be expected to partner internal teams such as: R&D, Commercials, Product Management, Engineering, Analytics, Quality and Compliance, Finance as well as external collaborators and customers.
How You’ll Contribute
- Strategic and executional oversight of laboratory operations: Assay portfolio, capacity, staffing, equipment, facilities, process execution, and P&L
- Manage financial operations of the lab including expense and revenue analysis, evaluation of lab services and development activities.
- Direct the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the laboratory (process control, workflow enforcement, error proofing efficiency, scale, and compliance).
- Plan, organize and direct all activities related to staffing, include hiring, training, coaching, performance review, appraisal, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
- Determine and justify needs for equipment purchases, monitor installations and oversee proper working order of equipment.
- Responsible for monitoring quality of lab, including test performance, turnaround time, and compliance.
- Actively participate in laboratory quality and safety programs.
- Work and collaborate closely with other UG department, such as R&D (including some infrastructure sharing with Tech Qual), Commercials, and Quality/Compliance.
- Adhere to company policies and stays in compliance with all federal, state and local agencies.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- BS degree, (MS preferred, PhD is a plus) in biological sciences.
- 10 years relevant experience managing preferable in a high complexity testing laboratory (NGS).
- 5 years’ experience in and oversight of CLIA / CAP Accredited Clinical Laboratories preferred
- Industry experience and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and technologies within nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, next generation sequencing, liquid handling automation.
- Experienced in of Product Development, LIMS, Quality, Compliance, Supply Chain, Biosample Operations, and the Clinical Lab (incl. forecasting, budgeting, and P&L).
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate rapidly and effectively within the organization and with customers. Is a high energy, results-oriented leader.
