GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Financial Credit Clerk is responsible for handling credit and collection functions within Credit Department under the general supervision of the Credit Manager. Some of these functions include assessing patients who present without ample insurance coverage. Provide estimates for services when appropriate. Receives and processes patient financial liability payments for current and past balances. Determines if patient may be eligible for state or other forms of financial assistance. Facilitate application process for patients. Prepares form letters to patients for cost share information and collection. Assessing delinquent accounts and determining when further collection activity is necessary in accordance with our credit and collection policy. This includes bad debt turnovers. Performs insurance eligibility verification for appropriate inpatient, observation, and other patient accounts. This position is the front line for customer service, handling patient complaints from outside entities and any walk in patients. Review credit balances and bankruptcy notices for adjustments and/or refunds. Acts as clerical support for department as needed.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Two plus (2 ) years of experience required in revenue cycle (billing, collecting, front office) of a medical facility or collection agency

Prior experience in a healthcare environment required.

Must demonstrate strong excel skills and be able to analyze self-pay A/R receivables and trend bad debt recoveries.

Knowledge of third party collections and reimbursement, preferably with governmental agencies.

Experience with automated systems and computers required.

Ability to interpret A/R reports and to prioritize work flow and activity around available information.

Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
-
Minimum High School Diploma, or G.E.D., business concentration preferred.

Must be able to obtain state Certified Application Counselor designation within 3 months of hire.
