Advocacy Program Director – St. Johnsbury
Status: Full time, 40 hours/week, exempt
Supervised By: Executive Director
Location: St. Johnsbury
JOB SUMMARY:
The Advocacy Program Director is charged with ensuring the overall impact of the Advocacy Program in
St. Johnsbury. They are responsible for staff supervision (3), all aspects of Advocacy South program development and management as well as grant and special project management. Their leadership will help to maintain a supportive, participatory, ethical and committed environment for staff. Finally, they will lead outreach and community collaboration opportunities in St. Johnsbury in partnership with the
Executive Director in order to further evolve Umbrella’s coordinated community response to domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, stalking and human trafficking in Caledonia, and S. Essex
Counties.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Direct Service
a. Provide supervision and support to staff advocates (2 Housing Advocates, Advocacy
Hotline Coordinator/Legal Advocate) as needed, including after hours. b. In partnership with Advocacy Hotline Coordinator/Legal Advocate: i. Ensure adequate staffing of office and after-hours hotline, support groups and other program services. ii. Ensure timely, accurate data collection. c. Maintain client confidentiality in compliance with VAWA standards and best practice guidelines from the field. d. Facilitate weekly staff meetings to ensure clear communication and client coordination. e. In partnership with Housing Advocates: i. Oversee implementation of Emergency Shelter Transitional Housing Program f. Provide direct service as needed, including serving as a resource to on-call staff.
2. Outreach a. Develop and build upon partnerships with community organizations, agencies and programs to best meet our mission including facilitating trainings, developing collaborative initiatives and providing outreach materials.
b. Facilitate monthly Domestic Violence Task Force meetings and other collaborative meetings when feasible/appropriate. c. Coordinate planning and implementation of awareness month activities and other related campaigns in conjunction with Social Change department and Newport office.
3. Program Administration a. Develop policies, procedures and practices as needed to ensure effective and consistent services. b. Ensure all program reports are supported accurately and on time. c. Channel information between program staff, the ED, etc. – includes writing monthly board reports, annual progress reports and other reports as requested by funders, the community or the ED. d. Play an active role in organization’s Leadership Team. e. Coordinate with Advocacy Program Director – Newport to evolve Advocacy Policies and other cross-site projects as needed. f. Attend board meetings and committee meetings as requested g. Attend meetings with grant partners and state network as requested or required by funders h. Work with ED on planning, budgeting and evaluation. i. Perform any appropriate activities as requested by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) A high degree of demonstrated ability in the following areas is required:
- Staff management & mentorship
- Group facilitation & workshop presentation
- Oral and written communication including online platforms (Zoom, etc.)
- Data collection and analysis
- Organization and ability to prioritize projects
- Trauma informed approaches to working with survivors
- Minimum of two years experience in the field of domestic/sexual violence, education, prevention, or closely related work
- Understanding of sexual violence as one form of oppression and awareness of connections between sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, heterosexism and ableism to violence.
- Experience interacting with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
2) Education/Experience
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in human services, psychology, sociology, education or a related field from an accredited university. Master’s degree in related field, a plus.
COMPENSATION:
Range: $47,000 – $60,320/ year. Commensurate with experience.
