Located in Troy MI, UnaSource Surgery Center is seeking highly motivated, energetic fulltime Health Information Technician to join our Center.


ROLE OVERVIEW:                                   Responsible for the maintenance and completion of the medical records. 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:                     Prior medical record experience.  Customer Service experience preferred.  

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION:                       High School diploma and/or degree in the Health Information Management field.  

PREREQUISITE SKILLS:                         

 

  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical records process.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates confidence and proficiency in use of computer.
  • Professional appearance and manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 Coding.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

The following functions describe the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here. 

                                                                        

  1. Works with physicians to set up their dictation codes and provide directions on how to use the dictation system. 
  2. Print/pull records for the next day surgeries and paper records.  
  3. Maintains historical OR schedules.
  4. eChart Analysis
  5. Manages completion of EMR charts.
  6. Files charts when completed.
  7. Trains new staff with chart analysis.  
  8. Prepares letters to physicians for missing dictation.  
  9. Prepares letters to physicians for delinquent charts.  
  10. Works with coder to obtain outstanding information from the surgeon or supporting staff to complete the coding and billing process. 
  11. Works with transcriptionist to make corrections to dictations requests by physicians or coders; or provide missing information – DOBs, MR#s, and Account #s.        
  12. Maintains processes for off-site medical records.
  13. Coordinate off-site storage of medical records.
  14. Retrieve previously inventoried boxes for destruction per the Center’s Retention policy.
  15. Release of Information – from all sources.
  16. Covers registration as needed.  
  17. Oversee incoming dictations from Command Health transcription. 
  18. Oversees distributions of dictations to surgeon offices via Command Health.
  19. Receives pathology reports.
  20. Prepping charts as needed. 
  21. Scanning as needed.
  22. Indexing as needed.
  23. Scan Patient Account documents as needed.
