Job Posting for Chief Growth Officer at Unbound

Overview

Unbound is an international nonprofit called to put the needs of the marginalized and vulnerable first. We build relationships of mutual respect and support that bridge cultural, religious, and economic divides. Working side by side with people of diverse faith traditions in Africa, Asia and Latin America, we bring people together to challenge poverty in new and innovative ways. We partner with families living in poverty on their path to become self-sufficient and fulfill their inherent potential.

We’re seeking a Chief Growth Officer to lead strategy and growth for Unbound, strengthen our donor and sponsor base, and expand our funding streams to a broader network. The ideal person is a strategic thinker and servant leader who can forge innovative partnerships, navigate evolving donor landscapes, and lead a team that thrives on collaboration and innovation. This role will serve as an integral member of our Executive Leadership team and drive our growth efforts to maximize our Mission – to walk with the poor and marginalized people of the world.

If this is you, let’s walk together.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Growth Officer (CGO) will be well versed in developing strategy, building teams and demonstrating outstanding accountability to the goals set before them. This role is responsible for leading the marketing, public relations, major gifts and outreach teams and will create new ways to solicit major gifts from new and existing donors and steward funding from other avenues, including foundations and public funding.

The CGO will enhance current sponsorship, other fundraising and outreach systems in place while looking at innovative ways to capture new audiences. This role will deepen the focus on planned and major giving and expand outreach to other forums including corporate entities, tapping into Employee Resource Groups and Corporate Social Responsibility, as an example. The CGO will strengthen coordination between marketing/communications and other areas of the organization and create synergy between acquisition and retention teams. Most importantly the CGO will consider any untapped areas for acquisition and develop strategy and goals around expanding our network.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute an effective growth strategy that demonstrates diversification of donors and meets the organization’s goals for sponsorship and acquisition.
  • Build strong relationships within segments of our existing and future sponsorship and donor base.
  • Maintain marketing efforts consistent with Unbound values, brand and messaging.
  • Diversify channels of acquisition with a goal of having 3-4 strong channels without relying too heavily on one channel.
  • Raise awareness of our unique brand and values across the U.S. and globally.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of strategies and facilitate changes as needed.
  • Utilize data to evaluate program effectiveness and support strategic decision making to develop fundable ideas.
  • Monitor the budget and goals and hold the team accountable to them on a regular basis.
  • Regularly present and inform the board, Unbound leaders and staff of progress and provide transparent reporting.
  • Recruit, hire and train high-performing individuals who have the passion and skill set to achieve goals.

Qualifications

  • 15 years’ progressive experience leading a high-performing fundraising, sales or development team, preferably for a nonprofit.
  • Global nonprofit experience strongly preferred; at a minimum must demonstrate a strong understanding of international development.
  • 10 years’ progressive leadership experience with reputation for driving growth through effective talent development and strategic initiatives.
  • High achiever with proven ability to increase funding and donors through successful PR, marketing and fundraising/sales initiatives.
  • Creative thinker who is energized by innovating, building and exceeding goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal, written and presentation skills, and the ability to work strategically with all levels of an organization.
  • Proven understanding of trends related to philanthropy and donor development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of CRM and other technology used in fundraising, marketing and communications.
  • Connections to or understandings of the principles of Catholic social teaching.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time, both in the U.S. and internationally, with strong relationship building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven and self-directed leadership style.

How We Care for You

  • Generous healthcare benefits including medical, dental, and vision with your choice of two plans.
  • Hybrid work policy and flexibility that offers work/life balance with the ability to work from home 2-3 days per week.
  • 12 paid holidays and one floating holiday to use on a date of your choosing. Additionally, 1 volunteer day.
  • 20 days paid time off with additional days for tenure.
  • Generous parental leave policy.
  • 403b with 6% company match that is automatically vested.

Unbound is headquartered in Kansas City, KS. The Kansas City metropolitan area is the preferred home base for the CGO as most of the team is located there. Alternatively, the CGO would need to spend at least 3 days per week in KC if not permanently located here.
