We are searching for driven, enthusiastic individuals to train to become Certified Medical Assistants with the UNC Pardee Health team! This is a full-time paid training program, after which successful trainees will take a CMA position in UNC Pardee’s physician practice network, with available locations in Henderson, Buncombe, and Transylvania counties.
During training, participants will be paid 17/hr and included in Pardee's benefits program, including medical / dental / vision insurance coverage, paid time off, and more. Participants will develop practical skills in both classroom and workplace environments to prepare them for clinical care in a physician practice setting.
After completing the training program, participants will test for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential. Participants are expected to pass this exam, after which they will receive a raise and transition to a benefitted, full-time position in our physician practice network. This program requires a 2-year commitment to stay with UNC Pardee. Locations for these full time positions are flexible, as we have available openings in our Primary Care, Urgent Care and Specialty Practice networks, spanning dozens of locations in Henderson, Buncombe and Transylvania counties. To be successful as a trainee, you must have good time management and computer skills, ability to think on your feet, and a desire to work independently. We are seeking individuals who respond well to feedback, build good relationships with colleagues and patients, and will make a lasting, positive impression with patients.
As a Certified Medical Assistant, you can expect the following job responsibilities.
- Interviewing patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, and history of allergies.
- Performing vital sign measurement and standard testing per clinic procedures. Collecting and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
- Coordinating and performing follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
- Assisting with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints
- Notifying patients of test and lab results. Explaining practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
- Documenting care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
- Maintaining medication and other consumable supply levels.
Key areas of responsibility for training include:
- Completing all assigned coursework and exams at a passing level or better.
- Engage in on-the-job learning with designated mentor and learn to perform tasks independently.
- Perform patient care and support tasks as assigned within scope and training.
- Observe all health and safety procedures and workplace policies.
- Remain open to receiving feedback and strive to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
- Engage with colleagues and patients in a professional, respectful and compassionate manner.
Qualifications for training:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Functional aptitude in reading, writing, simple arithmetic, and basic use of a computer.
- Good time management, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Experience in and/or exposure to medical or dental field preferred.
