Summary:
The Biomedical Technician I completes preventive and minor equipment repairs on various types of medical devices and non-medical equipment. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records on all preventive and corrective maintenance accomplished and inspects all rented, borrowed, or demo clinical equipment.
Responsibilities:
1.Inspects all incoming clinical equipment, such as new, rental, loaner and evaluation units, develops appropriate historical records.
2.Uses service and operational manuals to troubleshoot and repair complex medical devices and completes preventive maintenance.
3.Ensures all repaired equipment meets safety and operational requirements.
4.Utilizes various electronic media to document equipment history, generate reports and account for time.
5.Conducts training for equipment users as needed.
6.Continuously keeps customers informed as to the cost and status of repairs.
7.Responds to emergency medical equipment situations immediately.
8.May perform repairs in stressful medical environments such as Surgical Operating Rooms, Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department.
9.Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements.
10.Is available and flexible to take call and work as required to ensure coverage for the biomedical function.
Other information:
Education
Associates degree in Bio-Medical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, computer science or equivalent military training preferred.
Licensure/Certification
CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
Experience
Two years experience in the electronics repair/testing field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to troubleshoot, calibrate and repair a variety of technology, equipment and tools.
- Ability to read, follow and interpret schematic diagrams.
- Ability to distinguish and interpret different electronic symbols.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong knowledge of computers and technology including MS Office. Skilled at learning new software applications and technology rapidly.
Valid NC Driver’s License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
