Summary:
Provides patient care in the Wound Care Center within the
scope of practice for the licensed Registered Nurse. Facilitates patient flow
and assists with the prioritization of work assignments.
Responsibilities:
1.Maintains compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
2.Demonstrates clinical competence in patient care skills within the scope of practice for the registered nurse, to include patient assessment including assessment, measurement, and documentation of wounds, assisting with exams and procedures, administering medications, and providing patient education. Performs post-debridement measurement and documentation of procedure to ensure accurate billing.
3.Facilitates effective patient flow and assists with prioritization of work assignments.
Collaborates with clinical staff for patients requiring the use of Hoyer lift and more than one staff member to complete patient treatment as ordered by provider.
4. Completes initial assessment for the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) safety questionnaire and collaborates with the HBOT tech prior to patient approval for service, to ensure a smooth treatment plan as ordered by the provider.
5. Completes nurse visits for ongoing ordered compression wraps, including an assessment, observation, and documentation of the condition of the wound. Responsible for communicating any concerning or notable changes to the provider when applicable.
6. Collaborates with insurance for provider orders for skin substitutions, home health visits, and wound vac treatments. Acts as a case manager for patients in the outpatient clinic.
7. Assists with the maintenance of adequate level of supplies and performs and documents medical equipment safety checks.
8. Participates in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments in the clinic and adheres to the policies and procedures of the organization, consulting with Infection Prevention when necessary.
9. Adheres to the American Nurses association Code of Ethics. Recognizes, supports and utilizes evidence-based nursing practices.
10. Compliance with established safety and regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection prevention policies and procedures. Participates in unit-based performance improvement activities.
11. Demonstrates good customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and visitors. Exhibits effective and timely communication and demonstrates teamwork.
Other Information
Education Requirements:
- Diploma, associate degree (AND) or bachelor’s degree (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina, BLS.
- Previous experience in physician office, wound care, or urgent care preferred.
- Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures. Ability to document clinical information timely and accurately. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from patients, physicians, family members, and other staff. Mathematical skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
