What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bioinformatics Scientist position at unc?
Are you interested in helping push cancer research forward? Would you like to tackle big data problems? Do you want to be part of a team that is rooted in both computational science and clinical science? If so, then the Functional Systems Genomics lab is looking for you!Our lab operates as a collaborative unit with a clinical lab in the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to build bioinformatics and computational biology tools for the analysis of large-scale cancer omics data. We use genomics and single cell technologies to understand why tumors respond differently to treatments. We aim to characterize response to treatment in distinct populations and establish methods to precisely identify and target vulnerabilities. Our computational methods form a foundation for clinical trials that are carried out on subpopulations of responders. As a member of the lab, the Bioinformatics Scientist will be responsible for development and execution of software for advanced data analysis tasks in support of sponsored research. Research goals will be identified through collaboration with oncologists, biostatisticians, and geneticists. Fulfillment of this responsibility requires experience in a Linux computing cluster environment, programmatic database queries, management of large data sets, data mining, statistical analysis, and strong scientific communication skills.
