Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | Through teaching, research and service, the Department of Communication addresses the many ways communication functions to create, sustain, and transform personal life, social relations, political institutions, economic organizations, and cultural and aesthetic conventions in society; promotes competencies required for various modes of mediated and non-mediated communication; and develops skills for analyzing, interpreting and critiquing communication problems and questions. The program of study offered by the Department thus provides a firm foundation for enriched personal living, for professional effectiveness regardless of the specific career one may pursue, and for informed participation in human community. The Department of Communication includes 30 faculty, 50 graduate students and over 850 undergraduate majors. The Department and personnel are recognized for significant contributions to the profession and to the University, state, and nation. Position Summary | The Teaching Assistant Professor position in the Department of Communication will be a permanent, fixed-term appointment. Responsibilities will include teaching a 3 -3 load of primarily introductory undergraduate courses in Screenwriting. The candidate may also be asked to teach other courses, including first-year seminars of their own design that support the department’s instructional needs. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required; for candidate demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to mentoring or advising students or otherwise developing or delivering student experiential learning such as Co-Op education programs, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Preferred candidates will have earned a post-Baccalaureate degree in Communication or related discipline. Master’s degree or PhD in Communication, English Literature, Journalism or a related field. |
