Purpose of Position
The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the direct recruitment of law students and the maintenance of records related to the recruitment process. The recruitment of high-quality students is critical to the success of the law school in maintaining funding for the delivery of our educational program and in reaching the next level of excellence. The Admissions Counselor reports directly to the Director of Admissions and Records.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruitment of prospective law students.
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of admissions recruitment and related events.
- Meet and counsel prospective law students through in-person and virtual interactions.
- Represent the School of Law at recruiting events throughout the United States and Canada.
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the School of Law’s academic program and extra- and co-curricular opportunities and effectively convey that knowledge to prospective students.
- Inform and counsel prospective students on admissions processes, campus life, student services, career opportunities, and related aspects of law student recruitment.
- Display a consistent level of high energy and enthusiasm for the School of Law.
- Present and maintain a positive and professional image when representing the School of Law and/or interacting with prospective students.
- Understand the benefits and opportunities of attending the School of Law and highlight those benefits and opportunities to prospective students.
- Regularly communicate with the Director of Admissions and Records and others at the School of Law to ensure consistent and timely communication with prospective applicants.
- Connect admitted applicants to faculty, staff, students, and/or alumni as needed.
- This position requires frequent travel to recruiting events (often held outside of normal business hours). • Fulfillment of this job duty may require the ability to travel to locations that are not serviced by public transportation.
- Assist with School of Law administration.
- Contribute to the success of the School of Law through college and constructive participation in administrative efforts.
- Serve on School of Law and/or external committees and professional development opportunities.
- Represent the School of Law in various public settings and interact effectively with external constituencies.
- Other related responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 2 years of experience using technology tools for communication, record keeping, and management of data
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school (conferred by position start date); OR Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, business, public administration, human resources, or related field (conferred by position start date).
- Previous recruiting experience.
- Experience working in a legal or higher education setting, or with academic programs.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of Canadian law licensure issues and processes.
