Purpose of Position
This position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research, conducting projects for clients throughout the United States and the world. Duties & Responsibilities
We are looking for confident, scientifically trained, and market-oriented individuals to contribute to the success of the organization by performing one or more of the following functions:
- Prepare budgets according to guidelines of the sponsoring agency request for proposal (RFP). Inform principal investigator (PI) of required financial information. Determine the budget display and selection of budget template to meet RFP, sponsoring agency, and cost-share requirements to appropriately budget the scope of work.
- Assist PIs in preparation of an accurate representation of their budget in accordance with official sponsor RFPs and EERC and university guidelines, ensuring that the budget includes appropriate categories and budgeted dollars. Work with supervisor, accounting, and contracts staff as necessary to complete the budget accurately and with appropriate documentation for subcontractors, consultants, and equipment, etc.
- Review text of proposal to ensure that costs are budgeted as mentioned in the text, milestones match the period of performance, and the cost section is clear and understandable to the sponsoring agency.
- Input, then review proposal budget information to RMS projections, and update as appropriate until the project is awarded, rejected, or withdrawn.
- At the time of the award, work with sponsoring agencies, providing necessary budget justifications in a timely fashion by working with accounting and contracts.
- Accurately review the setup of funded and working budgets in RMS to reflect the status of the award and to maintain the appropriate personnel projections for EERC staff.
- Work directly with PIs, advising them with suggested working budget changes. Review fund statuses on a daily/weekly basis to ensure that the budgets do not overdraw and journal entries are kept to a minimum. This includes reviewing and making adjustments to line items to properly reflect line-item availability, reviewing end dates, etc.
- Use the tools of RMS and finance to review payroll, daily vouchers, journals, travel documents, etc., to ensure allowability, correct fund usage, and availability of funds. Work with PIs and other groups, including accounting, human resources, contracts, and purchasing, to resolve problems.
- Work with PIs as requested to answer financial questions and provide nonstandard reports on the financial progress of a project.
- Develop other reports as needed for project managers.
- Manage workload and assignments, and effectively communicate with supervisor on activities and work-related problems.
- Take initiative to help others in the group during times of heavy workloads, vacations, and sick leave.
- Bring forth new ideas and/or procedure changes to make the position or group more efficient. Share new things learned that would help others in the group.
- Maintain EERC opportunities report with up-to-date and accurate information.
- Demonstrate professional, service-oriented, and constructive interactions, written and verbal, with EERC staff and sponsoring agencies.
- Participate in the development of recharge center rates that accurately reflect the centers’ budget and expected activity along with the Assistant Director of Budgeting and Finance.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values customer service.
- May consider hybrid or remote work location if advantageous to the activities of the EERC.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2 years of progressive experience in a business setting.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Successful com0pletion of a criminal history records check.
