What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fulfillment Manager position at UNFI?
PURPOSE:
To provide day-to day management of retail, distribution and wholesale customer service and order fulfillment. Responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of departmental and organizational operations through the provision of effective methods, strategies, policies and practices.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains positive relationships with existing customers and act as UNFI International’s operational point of contact with the regions, vendors, third-party providers and overseas customers.
- Liaise with other departments in order to establish and maintain effective and relevant export/import activities and support in relation to the organization’s sales, purchasing and overall operating functions.
- Investigate, plan and implement strategically effective and relevant transport methods, which meet the demands of customers, and provide acceptable cost
- Coordinate container consolidation activities for import/export shipments to ensure smooth and timely deliveries to customer DC’s. Must assure Customs vendor is compliant with the working SOP, creates and manages all SOP changes. Provides input to Customs vendor regarding expectations set out in the SOP including establishing Seattle HUB of service for all activities.
- Establishes processes and drives implementation for seasonal and other special and promotional programs (import and export) to insure the most cost-effective supply, delivery and shipping methods.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to be able to engage confidently with key stakeholders at all levels across the organization and maintain complex relationships with international customers.
- Manages the resolution of claims, directs Accounting in claims resolution.
- Participate with division A/R and A/P departments in the resolution of outstanding debts. May require direct collection efforts with the customer.
- Obtain necessary state or federal certifications on documents required for global foreign Customs clearance.
- Research and report on future changes in import/export laws and relevant practices to ensure that knowledge is factored into planning department strategy and resources.
- Use personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in import/export activity and procedures.
- Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.
- Responsible for the daily management of and training of associates including daily order fulfillment, proper communication and proactive customer service.
- Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organizations mission - specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.
- Creates processes to drive efficiencies in order processing and logistic analytics, implements with local IT into local proprietary systems. Assures proper training of operations staff for new processes/procedures.
- Maintain personal abilities in, and appropriate use of, all relevant ICT (Information & Communications Technology) and other systems within the import/export function.
- Performs other relevant job duties as required.

- Bachelor’s degree preferred

- 2 years of sales background preferred
- Strong international or related industry experience preferred
- 3 years of strong customer service or management experience
Other Skills/ Abilities:
- Must possess knowledge of Export/Import Laws, tariffs and regulations, food/drug and labeling laws
- Strong negotiation skills required in not only base price, but packaging issues, global logistics, industry changes, contract language and more.
- Ability to think aggressively and work proactively. Need strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to handle multiple challenges, projects, priorities and deadlines.
- Effective college-level communication skills needed, both written and verbal.
- Excellent computer skills required and personal computer experience, with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management.
- Detailed-oriented; ability to understand what needs to be done and execute accordingly.
- Possess the ability to handle confidential information in a mature and professional manner
- Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/DEMANDS:
- Some travel may be required
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
- Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
