Job Overview:
The VP of Sales is responsible for establishing the regional sales vision by leading and directing all aspects of assigned region. Develop and execute sales plans, forecasts and goals designed to increase sales, profits, market share and minimize expenses. This will be accomplished by developing and providing guidance for executing comprehensive sales plans, forecasts and goals. These sales plans are inclusive of, current independent customers, potential independent affiliations, non-traditional business, acquisitions and new categories/purchase concentration. Ensures sales activities are in conjunction with UNFI’s Building Out the Store. Responsible for ensuring the team has necessary support and tools to effectively service customers. They collaborate with their teams to achieve the objective of Building Out the Store.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Provide Vision and Engage the Workforce
- Provide leadership of region sales and market development strategy and vision
- Develop, execute and collaborate with team on region sales strategies and planning to exceed sales and margin growth goals
- Communicate priorities, standards and expectations with team
- Establish clear sales goals, plans and metrics
- Challenge team to exceed sales, achieve profit targets, improve processes, create efficiencies and reduce costs
- Continuously promote and support diversity
Regional Management & Sales Planning
- Responsible for the planning and development of effective long and short-term sales strategies and guidelines.
- Focuses efforts on sales and profit margin growth.
- Evaluate current strategies to ensure programs meet the needs of customers
- Acts on behalf of company as an essential strategic partner to the customer
- Acts as an advocate for company's interest within the partnership
Deliver Regional Results
- Focus efforts and achieve key financial metrics on the core results: grow sales, EBIT, expense control, capital management and delivery on margins
- Forecast profit, volume growth, expenses and other related goals as determined. Prepare and manage sales, profit margin and expense budget for assigned region
- Research and analyze environmental and competitive conditions, customer needs, and market trends. Identify new business growth opportunities
Manage Relationships
- Cultivate and build networks to gain industry knowledge which can lead to prospective sales
- Maintain visibility within the customer base
- Develop proactive relationships with customers
- Support the development of programs relative to customer needs and retention
Develop People
- Responsible for continued development of the region's high potential talent.
- Encourage staff to pursue opportunities to develop new knowledge and skills
- Support the establishment of specific training and individual development plans
- Assist individuals in increasing their knowledge and experience to contribute at a higher degree
- Establish a high-caliber team that can be promoted more than one level in the organization
Requirements:
- 10 years of sales experience
- 7 years of people management experience
- Experience in developing and carrying out business plans, sales plans, and commission programs
- Significant experience in the multiple priority functions of merchandising, sales, development, financial, retail operations or logistics
- Understanding and knowledge of company products
- Working knowledge of sales forecasting, programs, promotions and related techniques
- Working knowledge of Profit and Loss Statements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of margin and company profitability
- Experience recruiting, managing, retaining and developing current and future leaders in the organization
- Experience participating in or leading a significant change initiative (e.g., standardization or consolidation project, key region initiative, acquisition, merger, startup) and managing across disciplines, functions or other organizational boundariesTravel is required
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
- Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
