Position Overview: 

As our new Municipal Client Relationship Manager, you will be responsible for the development of new municipal business, management, and retention of a municipal client portfolio through active calling efforts and servicing existing accounts. You will represent the Bank as a government banking ambassador and provide exceptional service to ensure a positive customer experience while generating sales and expanding market share within the municipal industry.  

 Essential Duties:

  • Develops municipal business and contributes to the Bank’s deposit growth strategies by cross selling products and services to municipal customer base to generate additional revenue in assigned territory and other regions throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 
  • Manage client relationships through sales call program, analyzing client portfolios and reviewing trending reports.  Identifies needs of municipal clients and recommend specialized services required and/or requested by municipalities.
  • Attains established individual, department, and Bank goals.
  • Organizes daily work schedule to call on existing clients or prospects in designated territory.
  • Provides effective and thorough presentations, in-person and/or virtually, to municipal clients and prospects that include a variety of audiences.
  • Prepare detailed monthly call and sales tracking reports.
  • Provides municipal customers with a high level of technical assistance and service related to the Bank’s online banking and online payment systems.
  • Required to meet performance milestones within a specified timeframe.
  • Keeps abreast of legislation governing the municipal field and ensures compliance with both bank policies and governmental guidelines.
  • Remains up to date with competitive market products and services and pays close attention to industry standards and best practices.
  • Ensures required bank documentation is accurate and completed in an efficient manner and adheres to the Bank’s regulatory compliance guidelines. 
  • Responds to “RFP” (Request For Proposal) issued by existing and potential clients within assigned calling area by working with Government Banking staff to prepare a formal response and presentation.
  • Provides ongoing assistance to support teams in absence of department manager.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled sales team meetings and roundtable discussions.  Identifies obstacles and works with management, department staff and other bank departments to create resolutions.
  • Identifies possible opportunities and innovations for increased, profitable municipal business and presents these to department manager for consideration.  
  • Attends municipal conferences, meetings and events sponsored by bank and municipal entities.  Assists department manager with coordinating and executing bank sponsored municipal events.
  • Manages entertainment expenses in compliance with Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 268A, which governs an annual limit per municipal customer for entertainment/gifts.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with all regulatory issues, with regard to Massachusetts General Law.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Education, Training and Work Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, in Business or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five to seven years prior banking experience required.
  • Municipal sales experience preferred.
  • Must have proficient computer skills, including Word, Power Point, and Excel, and excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and math skills. 
  • Ability to work in a group setting or independently, make informed decisions, handle multiple projects simultaneously and use discretion in setting priorities. 
  • Enthusiastic attitude and superior customer service skills with a professional and courteous style of communication. 
  • This position requires dependability, flexibility, organization, and the ability to adapt to the fluctuating demands of the Bank and needs of municipal clients.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving ability, and ability to work in a fast-paced demanding environment. 
  • Must have reliable means of transportation and the ability to travel within and outside of Massachusetts which may include overnight travel.  
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to pick up on new programs easily. 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle challenging customer situations with poise and tact.
