Organist/Choir Director Job Opening
Union Church of Pocantico Hills based in Tarrytown, NY is seeking an experienced Organist and Choir Director to shepherd our excellent music program. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated choir director to provide musical guidance and direction to our choir members. An outstanding Choir Director will be able to interpret various styles of music and demonstrate exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills at all times.
Who we are: We are a lively and friendly congregation with a combination of the unique beauty of our Chagall and Matisse windows and the warm family environment of a smaller church. We seek someone to be an active part of our community.
Organ: We have a three-manual, twenty-rank, Sebastian Gluck organ (2006)
Choir: We have an accomplished choir composed of volunteers and professional singers
Requirements:
• Master’s degree in Organ Performance preferred or related field is preferred. • Proven experience working as a choir director.
• Sound musical knowledge.
• The ability to interpret various styles of music.
• Strong leadership and listening skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• A passion for music.
• Patient, creative, and assertive.
Responsibilities:
• Worship Services: leadership and planning music for our weekly Sunday, 10:00 a.m. worship service. Attendance at Coffee hour.
• Wednesday evening: a mid-week choir rehearsal from September to June.
• Additional Worship services: Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week
• Preparation: Must be fully prepared for all rehearsals, services and events.
• Staff Meetings: In-person Attendance at a short weekly staff meeting (time is flexible according to needs)
• Weddings and funerals as needed. Additional compensation of $400 per event.
• Concert Series: Collaborate with the Fine Arts Committee in planning concerts/events.
Compensation: This position is part-time (15-20 hours/week) and offers compensation of $26,000 - $32,000/year, with 4 weeks paid time off (PTO).
