Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a Partsman at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The Company’s regulatory, engineering and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. Primary Job Functions
This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions.
- Removes, cleans, repairs, tests, and applies valves and fittings when required.
- Disassembles and assembles fittings on tank cars.
- Tests tank car, fittings, and valves to reveal possible defects.
- Rebuilds tank car fittings and valves, and tests them using specified methods.
- Maintains stock levels of and issues tools, spare parts, safety equipment, and related repair and repair support items to production, maintenance, and other production support personnel.
- Performs inspection to issued items to ensure that they are safe and in satisfactory condition.
- Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- Must have mechanical abilities and be familiar with power tools
- Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime.
Environmental and Working Conditions
- Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation.
- Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car.
- Uses hand tools, power tools, and equipment
- Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.
