The I Rise Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to taking action towards adolescents’ health and well-being by providing mentorship, prevention, intervention and leadership programs.

Our mission is to equip youth and young adults with the knowledge of independent living skills, leadership, self-respect, emotional regulation awareness, health and wellness and employment skills.

At the I Rise Foundation, we understand the importance of mental, emotional, and behavioral health. That's why we provide comprehensive services and coaching to support the mindset and empowerment of our youth and young adults. We strive to identify second chance youths who are in the foster care system, aging out of foster care, incarcerated youth, and youth coming out of incarceration. We offer individualized and community resources and support to guide adolescents in graduating from high school, gaining employment, educational programming, and health and wellness. Our services will provide the opportunity for youth to become thriving, responsible members of society.

The I Rise Foundation is looking for a treasurer, who will manage the financial health of the I Rise Foundation organization, which includes presenting financial reports to the board. This position also involves aligning the organization’s mission with the operational budget, as well as planning for the organization’s financial future. 

As the treasurer you will be responsible for the organization's financial oversight , obligations and management in conjunction with our Financial Advisor and Executive Director. From chairing the finance committee to assisting with fundraising ideas for nonprofits and overseeing funds from grants, a nonprofit treasurer needs to demonstrate:

  • Technical accounting skills to oversee funds collected and distributed
  • Investment management to grow the funds and expand the organization’s community reach
  • Organizational leadership to strategize and direct the group’s financial future

Nonprofit Treasurer Duties

  • Monitor the organization’s current and future financial health
  • Review operating budgets and make changes when necessary
  • Define and follow statutory and regulatory financial deadlines and responsibilities
  • Establish and distribute the organization’s financial policies and procedures
  • Prepare audits, whether annual or continuous audit reports
  • Develop financial goals and the measures to achieve them
  • Align financial goals with the organization’s mission 
  • Identify and manage risk
  • Safeguard the organization’s assets, data, and sensitive information

Qualifications

  1. Financial Expertise: The treasurer should have a strong background in finance, accounting, or related fields. They should be familiar with financial principles, budgeting, and financial reporting and analysis.
  2. Nonprofit Experience: Prior experience working with nonprofits or a good understanding of the nonprofit sector is very valuable. Nonprofits have unique financial challenges and compliance requirements.
  3. Integrity and Ethics: The treasurer MUST have a strong sense of integrity, ethics, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
  4. Attention to Detail: The treasurer must be detail-oriented to accurately manage financial records, prepare reports, and identify errors and/or discrepancies.
  5. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: The treasurer should be able to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make informed financial decisions.
  6. Communication Skills: Effective communication is critical for a treasurer to convey financial information to the board, staff, and other stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
  7. Team Player: The treasurer will work closely with other board members, the executive director, and the finance advisor. The treasurer should be able to effectively collaborate and contribute positively to the team.
  8. Time Management: Have the ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently manage their time is vital.
  9. Commitment to the Mission: The candidate must be in alignment with the organization vision and be willing to learn and grow. They should genuinely be passionate about the organization’s mission and have a clear understanding of the goals and values.
  10. Financial Risk Management: The treasurer should be able to assess financial risks and propose strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the organization’s financial stability.
  11. Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Financial regulations and best practices will evolve over time. 
  12. Dedication and Availability:  The treasurer position can require a significant time commitment during certain times throughout the year, especially during financial planning and reporting periods.
