What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chaplain position at United Church Homes, Inc?
United Church Homes, Inc. is seeking a Chaplain to join our team! This position is responsible for providing a program of spiritual care and worship for residents and the community at assigned United Church Homes (UCH) facilities; and providing public and church relations activities in support of the community's goals. The Chaplain models pastoral competencies in accordance with United Church of Christ and The Association of Clinical Pastoral Education professional standards.
Essential Functions Include
- Manages the pastoral care needs for assigned community
- Provides religious guidance to residents, resident's family members and staff
- Conducts and/or arranges worship opportunities to accommodate the diverse spiritual beliefs and needs of residents
- Conducts timely spiritual assessments of residents upon admission, and periodically thereafter, to ascertain needs and interventions as necessary
- When requested, acts as a liaison between staff and resident, a resident's family, or a resident's guardian during a crisis (i.e., critical illness, room transfer, change in treatment plan, etc.)
- Arranges for other ordained ministers to administer the rites and sacraments of the UCC, if requested
- Visits residents who are hospitalized or placed in other health care settings to provide support and address any spiritual or religious needs
- Meets with new residents to orient them to the pastoral care program and the facility in general
- Makes condolence calls as a representative of the community
- Keeps chapel and other religious/related areas in good order, requesting maintenance as needed; maintains chapel schedule
- Coordinates with Activities staff
- Assists with transporting residents to and from worship services, as appropriate
- Works collaboratively with social workers, physicians, nursing staff, and others, as needed
- Assists marketing and admissions with providing tours or other information upon request
Qualifications
- Master of Divinity from ATS (Association of Theological Schools) accredited seminary
- Three (3) to five (5) years of pastoral experience in a local church; Experience with geriatrics in a long-term care or other health care setting, preferred
- Computer Skills: Must be able to proficiently operate a computer, the Internet, Microsoft Office, other relevant software and basic office equipment
- Certification or eligibility to attain from College of Chaplains; Ecclesiastical endorsement for chaplaincy and ordination as a minister with standing in a denominational judicatory, preferably in the United Church of Christ; Four (4) or more unit(s) of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred; Must possess a valid driver's license; Must obtain and maintain all other mandatory requirements/certifications for practice or occupation
