Position Overview


This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of water trucks, but could also include operating end dumps and or belly dumps (with and without pups (trailers) and tarping systems). Additional Skills required: Experience in operating a water truck, working with the crew to process material on site and experience in hauling heavy equipment.


WAGE RANGE: $28 to $31 dependent on experience.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Can operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Must keep time and material records.
  • Must follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Knowledge of different types and sizes of aggregates.
  • Ability for maneuvering and backing with pup trailer.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively on the radio system.
  • Connect and disconnect pup trailer.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading.
  • Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
  • Keep time and material records.
  • Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.
  • Knowledge of weight requirements of loads leaving the pit.
  • Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations.
  • May assist Laborer at various job sites as needed. May perform physical tasks involved with laying pipe and utility lines, and/or tasks involved with road construction and laying asphalt, etc.


Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • One to two years rexperience operating equipment and 2 -3 years minimum experience driving a truck required. A person with Loader experience is preferred.


Certificates, License, Registrations

  • Must possess a valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class A with appropriate endorsements (Tanker and Air Brakes).
  • Must possess a valid Medical Card as per DOT standard.


Work Requirements

  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Incident free driving record preferred
  • May be subject drug and alcohol, medical exams and physical agilities testing.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to communicate using two-way radio.
  • Basic math
  • Basic computer skills preferred

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
