United E&C has a new opportunity for a General Superintendent. This position will be located at Watts Bar in Spring City, TN.


General Superintendent – Roles & Responsibilities:

Report to the Site Manager


Safety & Security

  • Ensure all workers are thoroughly trained in all phases of safety requirements for the assigned tasks.
  • Ensure all workers assigned to the tasks have had the proper Radiation Protection briefings.
  • Ensure appropriate workers obtain respiratory protection training.
  • Ensure safety is part of the planning of the field implementation activities.
  • Ensure workers cooperate fully with Radiation Protection personnel in all matters pertaining to radiological safety.
  • Help develop and implement ALARA considerations for performance of the work task.
  • Monitor assigned workers for negative safety trends and make corrections as needed to improve all aspects of safety.
  • Monitor individual workers assigned to the task to prevent individuals from exceeding dose limits and to allow equal distribution of dose among assigned workers.
  • Obtain and/or procure necessary specialty safety equipment for your aspect of work.


Quality

  • Ensure all quality procedures are adhered to.


Cost

  • Assist the Site Manager with input into the project cost.


Schedule

  • Assist in the refinement of schedule changes to accommodate schedule pullbacks, identification of emergent works, and schedule slips.
  • Assist the Site Manager with input into the project schedule.
  • Complete the assigned work scope within the scheduled time and within the budgeted cost.
  • Daily monitoring of scheduled performance index and cost earned/burned value.
  • Assist in developing required durations, manpower craft type, and craft number loading for the work.
  • Make the necessary adjustments to schedule, manpower, etc., to achieve at least a 1.00 or greater SPI and cost earned/burned value.
  • Monitor daily activity of subcontractor for adherence to the schedule and contract requirements.
  • Notify Project Controls at or before the daily status update deadline when an activity with less than 72 hours float will have a changed start, duration or completion time.
  • Perform 72-hour look-aheads for critical path activities.
  • Review and update schedules with Project Controls on a weekly basis and such that CPI and SPI can be updated and trended.


Meetings

  • Attend and participate in the Plan of the Day Meeting.
  • Hold shift turnover meetings.
  • Identify workers requirement to be at the pre-job briefings and ensure they attend the brief.

Reports & Logs

  • Status work to obtain productivity reports.
  • Update established metrics.


Materials & Tools

  • Ensure all small tools, consumables, temporary and permanent plant material is procured and on site prior to start of work activity. (This includes any necessary spare parts (i.e., oil filters,        cutting dies, etc.) and maintenance services for equipment).
  • Perform periodic inspection of tools and equipment for adherence to scheduled inspections and overall serviceability of items.


Interface & Communications

  • Coordinate with all departments any required changes needed to perform the work.  This includes both work package and quality execution procedure changes.
  • Coordinate with all SGT Department Managers for allocation of resources required to complete the task.
  • Coordinate with the Radiation Protection Department for all the necessary controls needed to perform the work.
  • Develop work package Play Books for the assigned tasks.  Ensure all aspects of the work are addressed. Hold sessions with the assigned superintendents and craft to review the work tasks. Incorporate changes that are beneficial to the accomplishment of the task and to SGT.
  • Display and project a positive attitude that the tasks at hand can be accomplished.
  • Immediately notify the Site Manager when an activity with less than 48 hours float will have a changed start, duration or completion time.  The 30-minute rule applies.
  • Inform the responsible Task/Site Manager as soon as possible of any condition that may impact starting a follow-on activity as scheduled (earlier or later).
  • Interface with client field personnel.
  • Interface with other field support department personnel.
  • Notify Management of emergent issues that affects the assigned work, both positive and negative impacts.
  • Provide direction to the construction supervision to manage the direct hire craft and assigned subcontractors to achieve the schedule and cost control objectives.
  • Serve as the single point of contact (SPOC).  Attend integrated pre-job briefs and coordinate performance of risk significant work.


Work Implementation

  • Adapt, overcome, and preserver to obstacles that may arise in preventing the completion of work activities.
  • Assist the Site Manager with the direct interface with subcontractors.
  • Determine necessary supporting, both internal and subcontractor, activities required to support the assigned work.  Ensure that these supporting activities are available when needed.
  • Develop and implement innovative ways to complete the work activities.  (This includes new tools, processes, and methodologies that are available within the construction industry and not currently prescribed by the Quality Execution Plan or the Work Packages).
  • Ensure adequate craft personnel are assigned and available.
  • Ensure layout of facilities (i.e., welding leads cords, etc.) to meet acceptable housekeeping standards and enable adequate cleanup.
  • Ensure that general of design, quality, and construction documents adequately support the implementation of the work tasks.
  • Ensure that housekeeping requirements are enforced to provide a safe work area.
  • Ensure that the appropriate individuals are signing the correct items on the work packages at the appropriate time.
  • Identify interferences or conditions that necessitate a work package and/or engineering changes and initiate, through the appropriate engineer or other responsible person, a Variation Notice (VN) (QEP 7.9), Work Package Change Notice (WPCN) (QEP 11.1) or Temporary Alteration (TA) (QEP 7.13) as required.
  • Maintain control of procured items, including items to be installed and tools, through documented issuance release.
  • Minimize and/or eliminate any obstacle to completion of the subcontractors work.
  • Review all assigned work packages for defined scope of work. (This includes all training, supplied materials, supplied tools, etc.).


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highschool Diploma, GED Or Demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 15 years experience as a superintendent in the nuclear power or industrial construction industry.
  • Previous experience with Steam Generator Replacement projects (preferred)
