What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychiatric Technician position at United Medical Center?
The psychiatric technician is responsible under direction of the Registered Nurse, assisting in the provision of patient care for emotionally disturbed and/or multiple disabled adult and geriatric patients.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of and an ability to maintain a therapeutically safe environment.
- Organizes patients to attend all scheduled group and activities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of each patient's treatment plan and the rationale for the nursing care rendered.
- Demonstrates knowledge of crisis intervention skills and intervenes in crisis situations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of seclusion and restraint techniques and assists with placing a patient in seclusion and/or restraints in accordance with established policy and procedure.
- Collects non-blood specimens, labels appropriately, and delivers to lab when necessary.
- Demonstrates an understanding of basic symptom otology and appropriate therapeutic techniques in dealing with patients.
- Clinical experience of one year in a psychiatric facility
- High School diploma or equivalent; One (1) year of college education preferable in counseling, psychology or a health care field
- Have and maintain current BLS
