Job Summary Work directly as a business partner with commercial team colleagues to provide legal support for high volume of complex commercial contracts in the life sciences, chemical and distribution industries. Provide advice and assistance regarding legal interpretations and analysis of the legal and regulatory risk of contracts. MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work directly as a business partner with commercial team colleagues to provide legal support for high volume of complex commercial contracts Provide advice and assistance regarding legal interpretations and analysis of the legal and regulatory risk of contracts Collaborate with global colleagues on corporate policies, training and other initiatives Assist in developing creative solutions for commercial issues and disputes Ensure compliance with internal policies Work closely with the company's contract administration team throughout the contracting process and provide supervision as necessary Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications) JD from an accredited law school, with strong academic credentials Current bar admission required (Pennsylvania preferred) Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience at a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both, with at least five (5) years of in-house experience preferred Minimum of five (5) years of experience drafting, reviewing, revising and negotiating complex contracts, including customer, supplier, service, quality, consignment, toll manufacturing, intellectual property licensing and joint development agreements, in an in-house setting, preferably with a large, global, publicly traded company Experience in the chemical, distribution and/or life sciences industries Understanding of legal review requirements for marketing materials and product claims Valid work authorization meeting federal regulatory compliance requirements applicable to our business. Undergraduate or graduate degree in biochemistry or chemical engineering preferred KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently) High integrity, with a commitment to upholding Avantor’s values of innovation, customer centricity, accountability, respect, and excellence Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to impact and influence at all levels of an organization Exceptional analytical, drafting, legal research, writing, and organizational skills, plus focused attention to detail Strong and effective judgment, and ability to present ideas logically Client-focused and confident, with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to interact with senior business leaders, as well as vendors, customers and other third parties Ability to resolve conflict, overcome resistance and facilitate consensus Flexibility to adapt to new Company priorities, processes, initiatives, and risk tolerance, and the ability to offer practical, compliance-oriented solutions Collaborative approach necessary for working in a global organization Ability to work independently and handle complex and sophisticated legal matters with minimal supervision Ability to handle multiple priorities within tight deadlines and prioritize workload in a manner that best serves the needs of the business Willing to learn new areas of business and the law ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions) Remote US-based work position Potential for occasional in-person office meetings; office environment has adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than ten (10) lbs.
