Position Overview:
As a Communications Specialist, you’ll be a part of the Provider Communications Team within Optum Behavioral Health. You’ll have a direct impact on the relationship our 300,000 providers have with us. By helping ensure providers receive clear, concise, applicable and actionable information, we can make it easier for them to provide quality care to our members and complete the administrative tasks that go hand-in-hand with delivering that care.
The Communications Specialist will work in an independent manner, as part of a larger team that supports communication needs across Optum Behavioral Health. Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be crucial to your success in this role.

Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with the development, coordination and project management of communications to the behavioral provider/facility community, including clarifying business needs, targeted audience and timeline
Work closely with team colleagues and internal stakeholders to evaluate existing communication channels (e.g., emails, web sites, etc.) and implement improvements
Support communication measurement activities, including providing results to stakeholders, monitoring trends and maintaining best practices
Help develop and maintain team guidelines, standards, best practices and internal presentations
Maintain strong working knowledge of UnitedHealthcare business policies and procedures

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) OR 5 years of communication related experience (writing, editing, project management, etc.)
2 years of experience in a professional communications role, whether through internships or post-graduation employment
2 years of writing & editing experience using AP style guidelines
2 years of experience developing communication materials (emails, online content, flyers, talking points, job aids, presentations and more) tailored to specific audience requirements; experience should include assessing, interpreting and documenting customer needs and requirements
2 years of experience managing communications projects (e.g., role assignments, timelines/milestones, issue tracking, documentation, deliverables)
Intermediate proficiency in data analytics and measurement, including strong Excel skills. Experience in Qualtrics and other survey tools
Preferred Qualifications:
Behavioral or managed care experience within the health care industry
Data analytics and related reporting experience
Soft Skills:
Consistently demonstrate analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt on the fly
Strong oral, written and listening communication skills combined with creative, innovative, and strategic thinking
Able to respond to and meet urgent deadlines, as needed
Flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative and fluid work environment
Must be a team player with the ability to interact cross functionally within organization
Able to apply strong business acumen and collaborative skills
Self-starter accustomed to simultaneously playing several roles
Ability to effectively manage conflict in a professional manner
Ability to perform tasks with a high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
