As the Environmental, Social and Governance ("ESG") landscape evolves and becomes increasingly important to UHG’s corporate strategy and reputation, external stakeholders (shareholders, regulators, customers), increasingly expect end-to-end controls, accuracy, consistency and accountability for ESG internal and external reporting processes across the enterprise.
The ESG Data & Process Excellence Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of UHG’s ESG metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), processes and controls, and for helping to enhance the digital architecture necessary to optimize ESG disclosure internally and externally in order to meet reporting needs. The role will involve organizing, analyzing, and monitoring relevant ESG data, aligned with external requirements as well as recurring and ad-hoc internal reporting The role will report into the VP of ESG and work closely with other members of the ESG Office, and cross-functionally with Digital, Internal Audit, and Accounting.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Apply financial rigor to manage internal and external data, analytics, and insights to support ESG strategic decisions, performance management, and reporting and disclosure
- Collaborate with Accounting, Internal Audit and external assurance to provide analysis for quality assurance reviews and continuous improvement of internal controls and processes
- Perform in-depth analysis of ESG data to deliver insights on performance and trends to business units and the ESG steering committee via VP ESG Lead and/or CSO
- Liaise with data owners across functions and businesses in which ESG data will roll up to the corporate level for firmwide reporting internally and externally
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of ESG disclosures across communication platforms (Sustainability Report, websites, surveys, ratings submissions, investor materials)
- Manage digital enablement projects related to ESG data collection, consolidation and system management in concert with UHG Digital and external vendors (e.g., Workiva)
- Administer online platform used for data collection and audit, prepare instructions and guidance materials for data providers on how to use the system and submit high-quality auditable data
- Maintain and update documentation of processes, procedures and SOPs around data collection, verification and assurance of ESG metrics and KPIs
- Serve as a trusted advisor to data providers by supporting them during data submission, audits and audit remediation activities
- Provide counsel to metric owners and data providers on continuously optimizing data tracking and collection efforts, enhancing digital solutions, and strengthening the control environment at the metric level to enhance data integrity
- Establish and deploy a Metrics Playbook as a process to identify, verify, and validate potential new ESG metrics
- Track performance against external and internal ESG goals and targets; package for engagement with colleagues accountable for metric performance
- Proactively identify and recommend process and technology solutions to continuously optimize the data collection, verification, analysis and audit processes
- Follow ESG reporting trends and developments in ESG data disclosure landscape, benchmark best practices and provide recommendations to continue improving ESG data disclosures

Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of end-to-end reporting, standardized workflows, data quality standards, SOPs and control processes used in financial reporting
- 3 years of work experience with advanced business/data analytics, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills, linking data sources (e.g., Excel, Access, SharePoint)
- 3 years of experience using visualization tools (e.g., Tableau or equivalent) and cloud-based data hubs, reporting and data storage software and systems
- 2 years working in a highly matrixed environment, including cross-functional experience
- Experience in analyzing and synthesizing large amounts of data and information into digital visuals (e.g., SharePoint summary pages, infographics, PowerPoint slide decks)
- Understanding of reporting/disclosure/KPIs in key Sustainability/ ESG topic areas
- Solid attention to detail and accuracy, aligned with financial regulatory reporting standards
- Ability in process analysis/ design acumen - ability to evaluate processes, controls, and issues including risk identification and mitigation

Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, or New York City Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada/New York City residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
